 For the first-time ever, the Boone County Hospital Foundation and Diabetes Center invited nationally recognized author, speaker and spokesperson Chris Smith, The Diabetic Chef, to speak in May for the Educating and Empowering U Series at the Des Moines Area Community College. Other speakers and vendors were also on hand to share their knowledge with those individuals that attended; supper was served. Nearly 100 people attended.
Chef Smith was diagnosed with type I diabetes in 1993 and has since combined his professional culinary expertise and his personal experiences with diabetes in order to become an advocate for healthy diabetes living. He is dedicated to helping people who seek to make healthier cooking and eating choices.
