If you think the flu is not a big deal, think again. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that annually10 to 20 percent of the U.S. population can get the flu, causing an average of 114,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths.
People who are 65 years of age and older and those with heart and pulmonary diseases, diabetes and other chronic health problems are at high risk for serious complications from the flu. However, everyone should get a flu shot to reduce the spread of the virus to loved ones and other members of their community.
Home Care Services of Boone County Hospital still has flu vaccine available for all age groups. Children ages 6 months to eighteen years of age should receive the flu vaccine as well as all adults. Homebound individuals are also able to receive the flu vaccine from Home Care Services of Boone County Hospital.
Flu vaccinations are inexpensive, much less costly than getting the flu. They are also covered under Medicare Part B.
For more information about flu vaccinations or to schedule a flu shot please call Home Care Services of Boone County Hospital at 432-1127 or at 1-800-395-9737.
