Rehab Services Celebrates 25 Year Anniversary
The Boone County Hospital (BCH) Rehab Services staff celebrated Tony Mack and Tom Schaefer’s, co-owners of Rehab Services, 25 year anniversary at BCH in November. The staff surprised them with new Boone Rehabilitation Services signage behind the front desk in the department, and celebrated with an open house for BCH employees and the public the evening of November 17th.

The original Rehab Services Department dates back to 1959 and was located on the second floor of the 1947 building on the west end. It later moved to the first floor in the 1967 building where it is currently located, but the location was much smaller (900 square feet). In 1991, the department moved to the Heartland Health Center (currently the YMCA) to gain more space, and then moved back to the hospital in 2008 when a remodeled larger area on the first floor opened up for the department.

Rehab Services provides physical, occupational and speech therapies for inpatients, outpatients, home care, Westhaven and the Eastern Star Home. This fall, Rehab Services started a Women’s Health Program that focuses on incontinence. Rehab is an internship site for physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapists’ assistant programs in the state of Iowa and South Dakota. All of the current department PTs have been interns at BCH prior to their employment at the hospital.
